Web Developer / Software Developer
My name is Jeff, and I have recently earned a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from The Evergreen State College. I am transitioning to tech after a 20-year career in the U.S. Army as a Human Intelligence Collector. Since graduating, I have been working as a Web Developer Intern at Evergreen. I support the EDURange project writing React and Flask code to create forms, databases, and the logic that moves data between them. I have been working with industry standard technologies such as Git, PostgreSQL, Node.js, Nginx, and, of course, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
My experience in the Army has honed critical skills that directly translate to software development. Problem-solving under pressure, where I quickly assessed complex situations and implemented efficient solutions, mirrors the process of debugging and optimizing code. Clear communication, essential for team cohesion and mission success in the military, now helps me collaborate effectively with colleagues and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Additionally, the critical thinking I used to evaluate situations and anticipate challenges in the Army is invaluable in software development, where strategic decision-making ensures successful project outcomes and long-term solutions.
